OF THE INTELLECTUAL-CUM-PSEUDO-INTELLECTUAL “If you want to interact effectively with me, to influence me -- your spouse, your child, your neighbour, your boss, your co-worker, your friend -- you first need to understand me” (Covey). I found it useful to quote these words from a highly sold and read authority called “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. In this context, I’ll centre my discussion on the 5 th habit, “ Seek First to Understand, Then to be understood”. I ’ll not point a finger at anyone but will mercilessly strip out the shameful hullabaloo that happened in The 17 th January 2015 College Baraza. If you too were the witness will either support me or disagree with me, or simply dismiss me to a cockney (spoilt adolescent) student who does not know anything. And that will be a mistake! A slight disagreement that happened was the case with time. The so called wananchi (the likes of me) were given 30 minutes to present their vie

A LETTER TO YOUR EXCELLENCY VICE PRESIDENT (DARUSO-MUCE)  “You are taking it too far” , this was one of my friend’s insight when I shared with him this piece of madness . “And if you are not careful enough, you are about to mess it up” he added. This man assassinated my courage to post this; but after recollecting myself and observing how serious the subject is, I have decided to ignore my friend’s comments and I am writing this long letter to you, Your Excellency. Your Excellency, though this may sound skeptical to most people, but let us face it altogether. I am humbly asking you, right there you are; please turn your eyes, to the left and the right. How do you assess the kind of dress does the people you are leading wear? I knew that, most of us do not like this subject, this is just unfortunate, I always say what most people do not like, provided that, it carries some bits of certainty. Madam vice, it is true that, a pair of trousers can be worn b
DARUSO-MUCE; NOT FOR THIS INCOMPETENCE: Allow me to demonstrate my madness to you; let us face it that the wrath of my pen won’t spare you for this. Though our government is generally performing poorly, let us explore the Ministry of Education and Academic Affairs. I choose the Ministry of Education and Academic affairs because it forms what I call the “engine of our presence here”. I am very bewildered with the way things are being ran in this ministry. Come to think of it- group discussions are littered everywhere. We all know that there are prescribed venues for group discussions; the well known and perhaps authorized are the AH, CF, and LR7 . How on earth are some colleagues making discussions in rooms which are meant for private study? Seminar rooms, other Lecture rooms out of LR7 and sometimes in the Library or computer lab?! Writing directives and posting them on walls that people should not make “unnecessary” noise is such a remarkable move. But, how can o
Arms Akimbo; Bewildered Last Friday 5 th Dec. 2014, I was passing beside the college notice boards. I came across one announcement which amazed me much. I stood there, read and re-read,  couldn't  believe my eyes: You have eyes right? Feast on it: TO ALL THOSE 1 ST YEAR WHO ATTEND ALL THE SEMINARS LED BY DR. MULUNGU SHOULD GO TO HIS OFFICE IN THE NEW BUILDING TO BE GIVEN ASSIGNMENTS FOR DS 101. THAT IS EXACTLY 3.00PM TO DAY, 04/02/2014       BY DR.MULUNGU                                                                    VIA                                                                          CR. DS 101 “TO ALL THOSE”. ‘ALL’ is a predeterminer meaning “whole quantity or extent of something”. ‘THOSE’ is also a determiner plural form of “that”. Oxford dictionary explains “that” as either a pronoun or determiner used to identify a specific person or thing observed by the speaker. So, from our honourable DS 101 CR is this combination correct? Development in the Underdeveloped

The term ‘’Development’’ has been contended for a number of years. It can be simply asserted as the concept of both convergence and divergence. This means that, when the Tindiga of Dodoma defines or conceptualizes development, the concept will completely differ from that of an indigenous American economist. Consequently, the concept, ‘‘impedes thinking of one’s own objectives as Nyerere wanted; it undermines confidence in oneself and one’s own culture as  Stevenhagen demands; it clamours for management from the top down, against which Jimoh rebelled’’ (Esteva,2010,p.3). Therefore, this collective argument gives a clear preface and it introduces development as a concept of multiple definitions and theories; equally, this troubling concept can be traced far back time immemorial, but it gained momentum soon after the Second World War in 1945, the period famously identified as the turning point of the world history. Thus, in the 1950s various definitions and theories of  development emer
