Another public holiday?
If there is anyone hating holidays let him bring some to Tanzania. I dare say this, following a statement made by his excellency, president J.Kikwete today. It is world wide known that, Zanzibar revolution occurred on 12th January 1964. None disputes that. the 50th anniversary had been marked today, on 12Jan 2014, There is no problem with the whole week or so that preceded the anniversary. However, what is astonishing is the statement by J.K that there will be an additional public day on Monday 13th 2014 to celebrate 50years of Zanzibar revolution. This is difficult to understand. What will be the name of the new public holiday? Can we call it a revised Zanzibar revolution? Or J.K's version of the Zanzibar revolution? I have so many unanswered questions.
To be frank, the additional holiday is disputably meaningless, it is something weak in color. It downplays the real Zanzibar revolution to acquire a new false face. Just imagine of many other public days per year, Union day, Workers day, Sabasaba day, Nanenane day, Nyerere day, just to name a few. Consequently we have Zanzibar revolution I and II. Where are we heading? Is this not typical laziness?
Without mincing words, this country is fed up with public days so to speak. There is no need for this. It is wise that people should know this reality and stop celebrating over senseless unfortunate holidays. This cripples our economy in the sense that people are made to stay in doors in the name of a public day!
" When did u arrive here?"
I ask you politely, who brought thy here?Do you have some ear to hear?
Now, answer my query.
Did they bring you to impoverish us?
It seems your skull porridge's not in use
You mind is tarmacked.
It seems you are happy
With your new appointment
To rule our bones, to rest them
On earthed beds.
Your are not welcome
Go back to your creator.
